Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Both ART and EMDR use eye movements to facilitate visualization techniques focused on helping to reduce distress from traumatic memories. ART focuses more directly on how negative images are connected with emotional and physical reactions. The specific and unique way in which the techniques are delivered in ART tend to result in a more rapid and complete recovery. Trauma therapy is a form of mental health treatment specifically designed to help individuals recover from the emotional and psychological impact of traumatic experiences. Trauma can result from events such as abuse, accidents, violence, natural disasters, neglect, or prolonged stress (like living in a war zone or experiencing chronic childhood adversity).

Goals of Trauma Therapy:

  • Reduce symptoms of trauma-related disorders (e.g., PTSD, anxiety, depression)
  • Process and integrate traumatic memories
  • Build coping strategies to manage emotional distress
  • Restore a sense of safety, trust, and control

Common Types of Trauma Therapy:

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helps individuals reframe negative thought patterns and beliefs related to trauma.
  2. Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
A version of CBT specifically adapted for trauma, often used with children and adolescents.
  3. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Uses guided eye movements to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories and reduce their emotional charge.
  4. Somatic Experiencing
Focuses on the connection between body and mind, helping individuals release trauma stored in the body.
  5. Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Explores and heals inner "parts" of the self that may be in conflict due to trauma.
  6. Prolonged Exposure Therapy
Involves gradually and safely confronting trauma-related memories, feelings, and situations to reduce avoidance and distress.

Who Can Benefit?

  • Survivors of abuse, assault, or accidents
  • Veterans or people exposed to violence
  • Individuals who experienced childhood neglect or trauma
  • Anyone struggling with, anxiety, depression, or dissociation due to trauma (childhood or adult trauma). PTSD and complex PTSD.

If you're considering trauma therapy, it’s important to work with a licensed mental health professional who has specialized training in trauma-informed care. Let me know if you’d like help finding a specific type or understanding which approach might be most appropriate.
